  22. Thanks for the replies to my posting asking for 68881 add-on
  23. info.  The machine I intend adding the coprocessor to is a
  24. recent 1040STFM.  It has two ROM chips,  surface mounted GLUE
  25. and MMU chips and the 68000 is positioned below the keyboard
  26. space bar.  It has been upgraded to 2M ram.  I understood a
  27. German company (Lischa Datentechnik,  Hochstrasse 22, 4173
  28. Kerken 2) produced a board that was stuck ontop of the 68000,
  29. it sounded suitable,  I wrote to them but no reply came.  If
  30. any one knows about Lischa & the 68881 please elaborate. I
  31. tried to get a Third Coast CMI accelerator board,  ordered it
  32. in june,  they cashed the cheque,  they still havent sent the
  33. board,  despite having advertised its existance for months.  I
  34. phoned them, they said 'ready in two weeks' .....four weeks
  35. ago.  I am not happy with Third Coast's service.

  37. Fortrans,  the only Fortran I am familiar with is by Prospero.
  38. It is well documented,  has a good debuger, and produces code
  39. that runs 20KWhetstone/s double precision 50KWhetstones single
  40. precision (and 200KWhetstones for both precisions with the
  41. 68881).  Both single and double precision use the IEEE floating
  42. point format.  About the only gripe I have against it is the
  43. rather slow compile and link times and the slow editor screen
  44. manipulation (much improved with turbo ST 1.6).

  64. Sorry, the virus is really CP/M text file format, which ends lines of text
  65. in a CR-LF (0x0D/0x0A).  My bet is that you're on a UNIX system, and something
  66. on there is "smart" enough to convert those end-of-lines to UNIX end-of-lines,
  67. which are simply LF (0x0A).  How are you decoding the program?

  81. I have a mega-4, atari laser printer, and external hard drive (Supra card).
  82. Apparently when I boot with the laser printer attached it must be turned on;
  83. otherwise I can't access the hard drive.  If I turn the printer off after I
  84. boot I have trouble accessing both the hard drive and the floppy.  It's a
  85. real pain to swap cables to bypass the laser printer.  I talked to a dealer
  86. who said that this was "normal behavior".

  90. 1. Is there any danger to the laser printer if I leave it on while I'm using
  91. the mega?  The system is usually on about 8 hours a day, seven days a week.

  93. 2. Is there any switch available which will allow me to use the machine
  94. with the laser printer still attached but turned off?

  96. 3. Is there anything else I can try?

  116. A friend of mine got tired of editing MINITERM.INF in a text-editor and
  117. made a smart program called SETUP to configure MiniTerm....
  118.  
  119. This program is now posted to panarthea and will be available soon....
  120. With this program it should be "piece of cake" to setup MiniTerm...

  200. The attitude that it is nuts to pay more than $100 for software is the
  201. reason why there is not the same level of quality in much of the STware as
  202. there is in Macware. As I said on the NET before, if you want good codes,
  203. with good support, you have to pay for it UNLESS you find individuals like
  204. Simon Poole (UNITERM author) who develop exceptional PD codes. Strange as it
  205. may be, lots of people want to make money selling software; if they cannot,
  206. be prepared for a machine that has a limited selection of good codes.

  210. Forget the EMULATOR.ACC and get Simon Poole's UNITERM. UNITERM is the best
  211. ST emulator for the price (free). IMHO, it's the best at any price (no
  212. flames please).

  226. I personally have never heard of a Stacy4 with 4 megs of RAM and an internal
  227. hard drive, until I saw it at the Fest.
  228. There is some problem with the local editor and what terminal type it thinks
  229. I'm using, so some of the lines from your old message seem to have disap-
  230. peared.  Your definition of Vaporware is... well, not what I would consider
  231. OK.  The STacy isn't vaporware.  It is unavailable.  Vaporware means, to me,
  232. the product doesn't exist in any form.

  237. The TT etc. were absent (I'm a little upset at that too).  Atari wasn't there
  238. to sell anything (they seldom, if ever, SELL anything at a show, just demo
  239. stuff).  The new stuff they showed, aside from the STacy4, was the Portfolio
  240. and a Megafile 60 (not very exciting, but it IS new).

  317. What new features does TOS 1.4 offer?  I have the Mega ROMs in my
  318. souped-up 520ST (double sided drive and 1 meg memory expansion).
  319. How much does it cost and where would it be preferable to get it
  320. from?  I got the Mega ROM upgrade from a dealer on six chips, which
  321. I popped in myself in 10 minutes.
